Item description: * See scan – absolutely perfect condition. This is an extremely scarce and rare Bulgarian Communist / Socialist era gold medal – The Honorary Title Laureate of the International Botev Prize. Only 12 people had been awarded with this highest Bulgarian decoration for their work in the field of Literature, Culture and Poetry and their special achievements towards world peace, democracy and social progress. The medal’s statute was that it was to be awarded only ONCE every 5 years and it was abolished in 1990 after the Communist rule was overthrown in Bulgaria. The medal is SOLID 14 karat gold, hallmarked by the State mint with an A4 mark and comes with original ribbon of issue, as well as special Government presentation case. The medal is 28mm in diameter and weighs approximately 25 grams of gold. With only 12 awarded examples in real gold and just a handful of extra pieces minted for future awards totaling no more than 20-30 pieces, this is probably one of the rarest gold medals of modern era Bulgaria. Obverse shows the portrait bust of Hristo Botev – the famous Bulgarian poet and revolutionary hero against the Ottoman Turkish Empire and reverse shows the Bulgarian National crest lion over crossed pistol and feather with surrounded text LAUREATE OF INTERNATIONAL BOTEV PRIZE. Nearly impossible to be found for sale elsewhere... Scarce phaleristic collector piece and one of the rarest Bulgarian medals, orders and decorations.
